  • Cinnamon sugar (½ cup sugar + 1 tbsp cinnamon)
  • Powdered sugar glaze (1 cup powdered sugar + 2-3 tbsp milk)
  • Chocolate glaze
  • Simple sugar coating (toss warm donuts in granulated sugar)

👨‍🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Activate the Yeast:

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tsp sugar. Let sit 5-10 minutes until foamy.

2. Make the Dough:

  • Add remaining sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg. Mix with paddle attachment until combined.
  • Switch to dough hook. Add 3 cups of flour. Mix on low until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Gradually add remaining flour (½ cup at a time) until dough cleans the sides of the bowl but is still slightly tacky to the touch. Knead on medium for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

3. First Rise:

  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a damp cloth.
  • Let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
