Homemade Hibachi – Steak, Shrimp, and Fried Rice Made Easy

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Rice

  1. Cook the Rice Ahead: For the best fried rice texture, cook your white rice a day or two in advance. Let it cool completely, then store it in the refrigerator. Chilled rice fries up beautifully and won’t become mushy.
  2. Sauté the Aromatics: Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add a little oil or butter, then sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until fragrant and lightly golden.
  3. Scramble the Eggs: Push the onions and garlic to one side of the pan. Crack in the eggs and scramble them until just cooked, then mix them together with the aromatics.
  4. Add the Rice: Add the cold rice to the skillet, breaking up any clumps with a spatula. Pour in teriyaki sauce and soy sauce to taste, stirring well to coat the rice evenly.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Continue to cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the rice is heated through, slightly crisped, and full of flavor. Remove from heat and set aside.
