Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Pie Dish
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch pie plate with butter or nonstick spray to ensure easy serving later.
Step 2: Cook the Onion and Beef
- In a medium skillet, sauté the chopped onion over medium heat for about 3 minutes, until it softens and becomes translucent. This adds a subtle sweetness to the beef filling.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until it’s browned and no pink remains. Drain off any excess fat for a cleaner flavor.
- Season the beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using). Stir well to distribute the seasonings evenly throughout the mixture.
Step 3: Assemble the Pie
- Spread the cooked beef and onion mixture evenly in the prepared pie plate.
- Sprinkle the top generously with grated Cheddar cheese. The cheese will melt into the beef layer as it bakes, creating a rich, savory base for the topping.
